Safety data sheets

Hazard summaries for the chemicals we supply, and how to get the full SDS for your records. Read the SDS before you store or handle any chemical.

THE SHORT VERSION

Gotech Chemical provides a safety data sheet (SDS) for every pool and water treatment chemical it supplies in Hong Kong — chlorine tablets, sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, pH and alkalinity balancers, algaecide, clarifier and cooling tower and boiler treatment chemicals. An SDS describes a chemical's hazards, safe handling, storage and first aid: ask for it with any order, keep a copy where the chemical is stored, and read it before first use. Tap a request button below and we send the PDF by WhatsApp, free, with or without an order.

Five rules that prevent most accidents

  • Never mix chlorine products with acids. The reaction releases toxic chlorine gas.
  • Never mix chlorine products with each other. Tablet chlorine and liquid chlorine must never meet — not in a bucket, not in a feeder, not as spills on the same floor.
  • Store cool, dry, sealed and ventilated. Keep containers closed, out of sunlight, and away from fuels, acids and other chemicals.
  • Keep away from children and the public. Lock the chemical store.
  • Keep the SDS where the chemical is. Read it before first use, and show it to anyone who handles the product.

We supply these products through our pool chemicals page, from the 26-product industrial range, and as part of our treatment chemical programmes for cooling towers and boilers.

The summaries below are general safety notes, not the full SDS. Always follow the SDS for the exact product you receive — request it free with any order.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix chlorine tablets with liquid chlorine or acid?

No. Never mix chlorine products with acids — the reaction releases toxic chlorine gas — and never mix chlorine products with each other: tablet chlorine and liquid chlorine must never meet, not in a bucket, not in a feeder, not as spills on the same floor. Store each product cool, dry, sealed and ventilated, away from fuels, acids and other chemicals.

What should I do if someone is exposed to a pool chemical?

Move the person to fresh air, rinse skin or eyes with plenty of clean water, and get medical help — in an emergency call 999. Have the product's SDS ready for the medical team.

Pool disinfection

Chlorine tablets
(trichloroisocyanuric acid based)

Oxidiser · Irritant

Harmful if swallowed. Irritates eyes, skin and airways. Contact with acids, ammonia products or other chlorine chemicals can release toxic gases. Store dry, cool, sealed and ventilated. Keep away from children.

Pool & potable disinfection

Sodium hypochlorite solution
(liquid chlorine)

Corrosive

Causes skin burns and serious eye damage. Contact with acids releases toxic chlorine gas — never mix with acids or with tablet chlorine. Store cool, sealed, ventilated and out of sunlight. Keep away from children.

Pool shock & superchlorination

Calcium hypochlorite
(granular shock chlorine)

Strong oxidiser · Irritant

Strong oxidiser — can intensify fire. Never mix with TCCA tablet chlorine, acids or organic material: contact can cause fire or release toxic gases. Harmful if swallowed; irritates eyes, skin and airways. Store dry, cool, sealed and away from all other chemicals. Keep away from children.

Water balance

pH increaser
(soda ash — sodium carbonate)

Irritant

Alkaline powder. Causes serious eye irritation; dust can irritate skin and airways. Avoid raising dust, wear eye protection when handling, and wash hands after use. Store dry and sealed. Keep away from children.

Water balance

pH decreaser
(dry acid — sodium bisulphate)

Acidic · Irritant

Acidic — causes serious eye irritation and can irritate skin. Always add the chemical to water, never water to the chemical. Keep well away from chlorine products: acid on chlorine can release toxic chlorine gas. Store dry, sealed and separate from chlorine. Keep away from children.

Water balance

Alkalinity increaser
(sodium bicarbonate)

Low hazard

Generally a low-hazard product, but dust can irritate eyes and airways. Handle in a ventilated space, avoid raising dust, and wash hands after use. Store dry and sealed, away from acids. Keep away from children.
